Hi there,

This my first step into blogging so forgive me if I don’t follow any current formats but I’m new so forgive me.

I guess I should really introduce my self. I’m Steve. I live just outside of Victoria BC and I want to loss some weight and be able to run in next years local 10k race.

I’ve lived in Victoria for at least 15 years and have been over weight pretty much thy entire time. Over indulging in all the good things like cheap 25 cent candies and slushies. Add that to a pretty sedentary life style and the pounds add up quickly.

About a year ago I got tired of always being the big guy, the guy that will finish the pie, cause god knows there can’t be left overs. So I started to cut back my calories. I also started running on a treadmill i started to really get into it. I started to look forward to a 30 minute run after work. Then I sprained my ankle, just enough to make it hurt to do a fast walk. About 2 weeks later my ankle was better but my motivation to run was gone.
I figured the recommended daily limit was 2000, as per all the food labels out there, so why not go to 1200-1500 and that should work, right? Well sort of. For the first couple weeks I lost a bit, then my sister caught wise of my different eating habits and steered me to the caloriecount.com site. There was a lot there and I started to use it, but started to fall off the wagon. And soon after stopped trying.

Fast forward a couple months and we (the wife and I) are off to Vietnam for a two week tour going from south to north. We had a great trip with the temperature in the mid 30s and lots of walking and uneven steps. Turns out that after two weeks of that I dropped 5 pounds. I thought to myself gee let’s ride this wave. So I got back on the calorie count website and started really monitor my intake. I found a couple apps for my phone that helped me track my daily calorie consumption, and weight. I started listening to the fat2fit podcast. And that seemed to really be the missing link. Learnt about BMR the minimum amount of calories required I you are Ina coma. Which turned out for my goal weight is quite a bit higher then 2000. Since monitoring my intake and listening to the podcast I have gone from about 280 before the trip, to 262 now, 3 months later.

The ultimate goal is to start getting healthier and to be able to run that 10k next year some time in April. So please follow along as I try go from 280 to 10k!
